Tavern site of two more killings

Metro Police are investigating the deaths of two brothers found shot to death outside a tavern that has been the scene of two other shootings.

The bodies of Peter Inge, 28, and his brother Christopher Inge, 31, were discovered by Metro officers outside the Heritage Lounge in the 1000 block of West Owens Avenue near H Street about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Metro Homicide Lt. Tom Monahan said.

One brother was found inside a car in the lounge's parking lot. The other was found outside the car.

Witnesses said an older model Lincoln, light gray over dark gray, was seen leaving the scene. The vehicle had temporary paper license plates.

Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 385-5555 or the Homicide Section at 229-3521.

At least two other slayings have occurred at the Heritage Lounge. Police said both shooting deaths were gang-related.

George Lawson, 23, was shot to death outside the tavern in October 1995.

Charles Fields, 25, was found shot to death in a bathroom of the tavern in July 2000.

Accomplice in killing loses appeal

Tyrone Lafayette Garner, sentenced to life in prison plus more than 50 years for driving the getaway car in a fatal Las Vegas bar robbery, has lost his second appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court.

Garner was convicted in the May 5, 1998, slaying of bartender Shelly Lokken, who was working the graveyard shift at Doc Holliday's Tavern at 8450 Westcliff Drive.

Garner's partner in the crime, Charles Randolph, was sentenced to death for handcuffing Lokken, firing two shots into her head and robbing the business of cash and the security videocassette recorder.

Garner said his trial attorney was ineffective in several ways, including advising him to testify.

The Supreme Court had rejected Garner's first appeal in 2000.

Allergy sufferers face more pollen

Mulberry, ash and pine trees are all blooming around the Las Vegas Valley and may trigger allergies, Clark County air quality officials said.

Mulberry trees are expected to reach their annual highs in the next week or so, followed by pollen from olive trees.

The most recent mulberry pollen count, taken last week, showed counts ranging from 89 grains of pollen per cubic meter at the Lone Mountain monitoring site near Buffalo Road and Gowan Street to a high of 7,540 grains per cubic meter at Griffith Elementary School near Valley View Boulevard and Alta Drive.

The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology considers pollen counts of between 90 and 1,500 grains high. A count of 1,500 grains is considered very high.
