Deadbeat parents facing new fee
The state Senate approved a bill Wednesday to impose a $2 fee on deadbeat parents in addition to money taken from their paychecks.
The money generated would be split among the state Welfare Division and local child support enforcement agencies.
Senate Bill 186 goes to the Assembly. If approved, it would go into effect July 1.
Senate approves service-dog bill
Dogs that help the blind and disabled would get added protection in the law under a bill approved by the Senate Wednesday.
Senate Bill 231 says a person could be convicted of a gross misdemeanor or felony if he or his dog injures or disables a service dog. The bill goes to the Assembly.
