Bus driver pleads guilty in sex case

Thursday, March 20, 2003 | 10:49 a.m.

A Citizens Area Transit bus driver today admitted to having sexual contact with a mentally disabled passenger more than a year ago.

Antonio Gomez, 26, pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault and battery with intent to commit sexual assault. In exchange for his guilty plea prosecutors dropped a single sexual assault count.

As a result of Gomez' plea, his May trial date was vacated. He is scheduled to be sentenced May 28 by District Judge Sally Loehrer.

Prosecutors alleged the Oct. 16, 2001, incident occurred in a paratransit bus while it was parked at a convenience store near Rancho Drive and Centennial Parkway.

Prosecutors claim the 24-year-old victim has the mental capacity of a child.

Gomez had picked the woman up at Opportunity Village and dropped her and two other women off at the group home where they resided.
