Savvy wine buys: E. Guigal ‘99 Cotes du Rhone
Wednesday, March 19, 2003 | 8:24 a.m.
This popular wine is poured in many local restaurants and has found its way into almost every major wine shop in town. The producer, E. Guigal, became famous all over the world for having received perfect 100 scores from Robert Parker for single vineyard wines such as La Landonne, which are 20 times the price of this fine, full-bodied red. They aren't that much different.
The grapes are from the hillsides of the Rhone River, expertly vinified, and beautifully aged. This is a wine one can drink now, or in the years to come, with great enjoyment.
Available at International Wine Co., Marche Bacchus, Trader Joe's, Cost Plus and Lee's Discount Liquors, $11.99.
