The Assembly passed two educational bills Tuesday designed to improve accountability in schools.
Assembly Bill 162, sponsored by David Goldwater, D-Las Vegas, requires a performance audit of six of the state's school districts, including Clark County.
AB162, which passed unanimously, also creates a Business Advisory Council to review the performance audit.
"At a time when we are considering raising revenue, we must look at every important budget line item," Goldwater said.
Assembly Bill 218, introduced by the Assembly Education Committee, provides for withholding school administrators' pay if they do not follow an existing state law governing the temporary alternative placement of disruptive pupils.
Both AB162 and AB218 are Democratic priorities for early passage. Another Democratic priority, Assembly Bill 232, which establishes a do-not-call registry for telemarketing, also passed Tuesday.
