Although darkness set in on six teams in the 18-team field at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Monday, the UNLV men's golf team was in third place at 3-under par after 36 holes.
The Rebels shot rounds of 289 and 284 on the par-72, 6,906-yard Austin (Texas) Country Club course. They are 17 strokes behind leader Texas.
UNLV sophomore Travis Whisman fired rounds of 68 and 71 and is tied for seventh overall. JC Deacon is 16th at two-under par.
Second-round play was to finish this morning before the final 18 holes are played.
