In Denver, hot act is Havens, not hoops

This time next year, the Mountain West Conference basketball tournaments will be the big story in Denver and Las Vegas will settle for being the world's entertainment capital minus college basketball.

Imagine if the move had been made this year. Fans would be traveling from all around the conference to enjoy Rocky Mountain vistas as well as championship basketball. Entertainment? Sure. The Rocky Mountain News website reports that Richie Havens is appearing tonight at the Swallow Hill Music Hall.

Oops, sorry. That's sold out.

So visitors could opt for watching a Dave Matthews cover band perform at the Gothic Theater.

The weather wouldn't have been an issue if the tournament had been in Denver this year. Temperatures are supposed to be in the 70s all weekend. But you might not have wanted to stick around too long. It's supposed to snow on Monday.
