Letter: Let those who want war pay
Thursday, March 13, 2003 | 8:49 a.m.
President Bush forgot to include $95 billion in his budget request to Congress to cover his war with Iraq. And since he now has us into deficit spending to the tune of $304 billion in this fiscal year alone, I have a solution.
A recent poll of eligible voters says that 58 percent favor his plans for attacking Iraq. If I recall correctly, there are 202 million adults eligible to vote, which means that 117 million Americans approve of his war and 85 million do not. That being the case, here is my solution: Let us ask those 117 million to put their money where their mouths are and each write Bush a check for $811.
This will adequately cover Bush's war expense, and those of us who do not agree won't have to pay our taxes to cover Bush's war.
Or should I say our kids and grandkids won't have to pay in years to come when we have to pay off Bush's national debt.
