An early morning fire at an apartment complex near downtown damaged 16 units and has displaced 22 residents, Las Vegas Fire Department officials said.
The fire appears to have started about 1:30 a.m. inside the wall of a first floor apartment at the Park Forest Apartments, near Fremont Street and East Charleston Boulevard.
When firefighters arrived flames were shooting through the roof of the 32-unit wood frame apartment complex, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.
Damage was estimated at $400,000, and the displaced residents were assisted by the American Red Cross in finding temporary shelter.
