Airport website offers travel tips
Thursday, March 13, 2003 | 10:06 a.m.
McCarran International Airport is scheduled to unveil a new website tonight that is designed with post-Sept. 11 travel in mind.
"The one thing that our customers have told us is that they want to go to our site and be able to get flight information and plan their trips," airport spokeswoman Hilarie Grey said. "The new site is streamlined and allows travelers to see what services are at what gates and the status of their flights."
The new website, www.mccarran.com, is scheduled to be up and running after 5 p.m. The new site is more user-friendly than the old site and includes tabbed sections and drop-down menus highlighting flight schedules and locations of airport restaurants, shopping and restrooms.
The site also includes real-time flight information that can be tracked on pop-up windows that can remain open on a computer desktop even when the customer leaves the website.
"Travelers are doing a great deal of preparation before coming to the airport," Clark County Aviation Director Randy Walker said. "They want to know where their gate is located, and what services are available in the vicinity, as well as how to prepare for security."
Security information is listed under a traveling tips section that reminds travelers about restrictions and packing regulations. The site also features links to the Transportation Security Administration and airlines servicing McCarran.
