Letter: Seniors suffer at Bush’s hand
Wednesday, March 12, 2003 | 8:50 a.m.
Well, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan has come out for cuts in Social Security benefits, probably to give Bush cover for what he intends to do anyway, under cover of skyrocketing poll ratings emanating from his trumped-up, oil-grabbing war on Iraq.
Well, as a senior citizen, this is one guy who will not sit still for any such chicanery for one New York minute, especially after the warmongering baby starver and granny dumper Bush has given $3 trillion in tax cuts to rich guys like Greenspan and himself, which very few seniors are rich enough to qualify for.
I strongly advise and request that all seniors of modest means (or more) swamp the offices of their senators and representatives, as well as the White House, with cards, letters, phone calls, e-mails, faxes, etc., demanding that no cuts are made in Social Security or Medicare period, end of story, until most of the billionaire tax cuts are repealed or until the payroll tax is raised on those receiving tax cuts.
Most seniors are barely getting by as it is and to propose cutting the meager cost-of-living-adjustment (1.8 percent this year), while giving tax cuts to everyone else, is the straw that broke the camel's back! Revolution anyone? Here's one recruit!
