Letter: Red Rock high on voters’ lists
Wednesday, March 12, 2003 | 8:51 a.m.
I sincerely thank the Sun for its March 10 editorial, "State bill timely on Red Rock." I was appalled to learn of the callous course of inaction that our Clark County Commissioners are taking on protecting Red Rock. In particular, I was deeply troubled at the reported talks that County Commissioner Mark James is having with a developer that could lead to a massive housing proposal in the area of the gypsum mine in Blue Diamond.
I have had the privilege of living in several countries as well as in a number of states in this beautiful land. While each place has its own beauty, we are immensely blessed with having Red Rock in our back yard. When one is in Red Rock it is hard to escape the feeling that one is witnessing a marvel of nature. It is also a crying shame to learn that our own local officials are blind to this.
But let this serve as a warning to Mr. James and the other county commissioners who apparently are swayed more by special interest than by the clear mandate of their own constituents: There are a whole lot of us in this county who consider protection of Red Rock a high priority, and we will certainly remember the callous inaction of our local officials when it is time to cast our next ballots.
