Letter: Armed forces fight for all of us
Wednesday, March 12, 2003 | 8:51 a.m.
I happened to overhear part of a lengthy conversation between two middle-aged men (40-50) on the subject of "war or no war" and our military's role in it. Two comments in particular stood out. They referred to our troops as "killers," and "They're too stupid to know how to get to Canada." Maybe these gentlemen will get to read this.
If you have strong anti-war opinions, please don't allow them to cloud your vision with disrespect when it comes to our troops. These "killers" are in harm's way for you, experiencing sacrifices and hardships at this very moment for you; ready to lay down their lives for you; to protect your freedoms. And I believe you've mistaken committed patriotism for stupidity.
We live in the greatest country on Earth with the greatest people on Earth, and more than ever we need to stand tall and proud and united in our support for our young, brave, proud men and women and the life-threatening job they are doing for you ... and myself and all Americans.
And may I take this opportunity to say thank you to all our service people, current and past, and God bless the USA!
