Letter: Insurers are the common enemy
Tuesday, March 11, 2003 | 8:58 a.m.
My life changed forever in November 2002 when I became a victim of medical malpractice. Not only does this mean constant trips to several doctors, but never-ending pain. I am forced to deal daily with a dramatic loss in my quality of life. My life will never be the same.
I am concerned about the initiative currently before the Legislature that would further limit the rights of those most severely impaired. I oppose any plan to "manage" the malpractice costs by severely capping non-economic damages, thereby depriving victims of the compensation they deserve.
I don't understand why doctors aren't joining malpractice victims to fight the common enemy, big insurance companies. Malpractice insurers are forcing good doctors to consider leaving Nevada and protecting the worst doctors who commit the most horrendous acts of malpractice. I ask insurance companies not to put their profits ahead of patient care.
