Letter: Heading down path of ruination

The Democratic Party could do a much better job in defining the political issues to the public before and after the Republican Party's spin. They could start with affirmative action. If the general white population knew that white women benefited the most under this program, they would be less opposed to its existence.
Another important issue is the Bush tax cut, which definitely favors the extremely wealthy. When the states and local governments have to raise taxes to offset the loss of federal funds as a result of the tax cut, where is the tax savings for the average taxpayer? This should be explained in such a way that all the people could understand.
These are two of the most divisive issues on the political front. Other issues include: the war on Iraq, Roe vs. Wade, school vouchers, the economy, Social Security, the Bush administration's secret meetings with energy advisers, corruption in corporate America and the environment. The president and the people around him are leading the country down the path of ruination and it will take another generation to recover.
