VegasBeat — Timothy McDarrah: Party prompts Tre pruning

Friday, March 7, 2003 | 5:44 a.m.

The late-night activities at the fabulous new Summerlin restaurant Tre were tres popular -- so much so that it had to temporarily pull the plug on the party.

On Feb. 21 the restaurant started a late-night weekend event called "000 at Tre" -- triple zero being the highest grade of Beluga caviar.

Ginards Entertainment was hired to toss the party, which featured music by DJ Create Fridays and DJ Five Saturdays from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

It was quite a success. But because revelers were patronizing the sleek Rampart Boulevard space only for drinking and dancing purposes -- Tre is licensed as a restaurant -- authorities suggested it suspend the late-night activity until it had a proper license to operate a nightclub.

The restaurant is in the process of completing the necessary paperwork and hopes to restart its late-night scene before the end of the month.

Tre remains open for business as usual for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

The name Tre, incidentally is derived from the three offspring of restaurateur Sirio Maccioni -- Mario, Marco and Mauro.

Maccioni is best known for his restaurant Le Cirque in New York City, one of the nation's most praised dining rooms.

There is also a Le Cirque in Bellagio, and the family recently branched out and opened Tre in January.

Texas real estate developer Randall Davis hosted a party Thursday night unveiling his latest project, Metropolis, a high-rise luxury condominium complex going up on East Desert Inn Road.

One of guests was former Lt. Gov. Lonnie Hammargren, who started singing "Is it True What They Say About Dixie?" with the jazz band.

When a fan said he liked Hammargren's loud print tie, he removed it and gave it to the admirer.

Good thing no one said they liked his pants.

A nice break for locals: The Bellagio club Light offers free admission tonight for folks with a Nevada ID.

They can also drink for free from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Is this a new trend -- rappers pulling their pants all the way up and wearing clothes that fit?

Grammy winner Nelly was spotted this week shopping at the Lacoste store at the Forum Shops at Caesars. And he isn't wearing a Band-Aid on his cheek these days.

He'd probably look good in chinos, penny loafers and a nice pink alligator shirt. Who doesn't?

Crystal Bock, a graduate of Cashman Junior High and Clark High School in Las Vegas, is making regular appearances now on the ABC soap "All My Children."

She plays the hippie psychiatrist Lysistrada Schwartz.

Her father, Howard Bock, runs John's Loans and Jewelry, a downtown pawn shop.

Entertainer George Bugatti has been drawing huge crowds at the lounge at the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas.

He is known for being Steve Wynn's choice, along with Michael Feinstein and John Pizzarelli, to open the Fontanta Lounge when the Bellagio opened.

Bugatti, 36, plays the Ritz through May 11. On May 14, he has a return engagment at New York's Carnegie Hall.

Yes, he practiced.
