Las Vegas Area Fishing Report: Weather takes toll on anglers

Friday, March 7, 2003 | 9:21 a.m.

NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks saw a decline in anglers from the previous week.

This was due to the weather front that went through the area. A few anglers fishing the Overton Arm in the Muddy River area continued to be successful landing crappies.

NDOW will stock Hemenway Cove, Pumphouse Cove (B5), North Saddle Cove (B3), and Horsepower Cove today.

Another angler using an AC Plug caught two stripers that weighed in at 18 and 15 pounds. An angler using an O' Henry lure was able to land a pair of stripers that weighed 24 and 27 pounds. NDOW stocked Willow Beach on Thursday.

Fishing pressure at Cottonwood Cove dropped off due to the weather front that went through the area. One very successful angler using anchovies caught his limit of 20 stripers, with the largest weighing in at 21 pounds.

The few anglers who were fishing were successful landing stocked rainbow trout that measured 12 inches. PowerBait landed the fish.

Haymeadows and Cold Springs reservoirs are both free of ice.
