A gaming journal publisher that also produces several gaming trade shows has been acquired by an arm of JP Morgan Chase & Co.
Ascend Media, which was formed by New York-based JP Morgan last year, acquired GEM Communications, Las Vegas, for an undisclosed amount, the companies announced this week.
GEM publishes Casino Journal and International Gaming World Business and its top exhibitions and conferences include the American Gaming Summit, the Gaming Technology Summit and Bingo World, all conducted in Las Vegas, as well as the Southern Gaming Summit, the Racing & Gaming Summit and the New York Gaming Summit.
The company also publishes quarterly journals Slot Manager, Indian Gaming Business and Lottery Business.
JP Morgan also announced an unrelated deal in which Ascend Media has acquired Atwood Publishing, Overland Park, Kan., which specializes in event-related publishing for trade shows and conferences. JP Morgan said it plans to keep Atwood and GEM in their current locations.
