The price has been rising fast on this popular wine from Umbria, a province sandwiched between Tuscany and Rome.
But Umbrian wines offer fine value for the dollar, and this value red is made by one of Italy's giants, Falesco, which produces more than 2 million bottles of this wine alone per year.
This is a tannic, light wine that is only 12 percent alcohol. It's a blend of three grapes, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and Sangiovese, which is fermented in stainless steel and then aged a bit in French oak, for an extra dimension of flavor and body.
Available at Lee's Discount Liquors and Las Vegas Wine Co., $12.49.
