Company's IT department earns top ranking

IDG Computerworld, an information technology newspaper, has named Harrah's Entertainment Inc. as one of the best places to work for technology professionals. The casino company earned the No. 6 spot on the annual ranking, marking the only gaming company on the list and one of only three companies to make the Top 10 for five consecutive years.

"A major contributor to our success is the staff that develops, implements and operates the IT-powered solutions that help us to systematically deliver the great customer service and sustainable business results that Harrah's has become known for," said Tim Stanley, chief information officer at Harrah's.

Minibar maker opening office

Automated minibar maker Bartech Systems International expects to open an office in Las Vegas this month to provide service to a growing client list in the region.

Marc Cohen, Bartech's executive vice president of business development, will lead the Las Vegas office, its first branch office in the United States.

Bartech's fridge system is now installed at the Bellagio and Mirage resorts.

"A permanent presence in Las Vegas has become increasingly vital," Daniel Cohen, company president, said.

Bartech is based in Millersville, Md., and has grown U.S. revenue an average of 300 percent a year since entering the U.S. market in 1997.

The company's fridge units are equipped with sensors that detect when a customer has removed a product, alerting staff to replace it or check it for tampering.
