Governor honors three

Four Governor's Achievement Awards for Outstanding Performance and Dedication in substance abuse education, prevention, enforcement or treatment were presented to three local community members and one community program.

The Commission on Substance Abuse Education, Enforcement and Treatment gave awards at the Best Coalition meeting last week to Dr. Miriam Adelson, Trooper Eddie Dutchover, Jerry Cornell and the Henderson Police Department program "Every 15 Minutes."

Adelson was awarded because of her work to treat local heroin addicts with the Adelson Clinic for Drug Abuse Treatment & Research. The clinic's mission is to provide a caring environment where addicts can get wanted and needed treatment.

Dutchover was honored for his commitment to the fight against drugs. In 2002 he participated in the confiscation of 27 pounds of methamphedamine, 513 pounds of marijuana and 416 grams of heroin.

Cornell, the assistant principal of Silvestri Junior High School, was noted for his work with young people to ensure that policies supporting a drug-free environment and prevention strategies are realistically carried out.
