Clark High School's Ambrosia Hafen-Hayes, 17, has been selected as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Youth of the Year for the Pacific region, and is one of five finalists for the National Youth of the Year award.
The junior attends the high school's Amsat magnet school for mathematics, science and technology.
Hafen-Hayes is no stranger to challenges. Part of her youth was spent in foster care, and much of her time as a teenager is taken up by community service and leadership, officials said.
The Youth of the Year program is sponsored by the Reader's Digest Association, and the finals will be held in September in Washington.
