Music
Sound of Las Vegas
The City of Lights Chorus will perform "The Sounds of Las Vegas" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. 657-2277.
Community band
The 30-piece Las Vegas Community Band celebrates its second anniversary with a free concert at 7:30 p.m. today at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. 455-7340.
Broadway men
Singer Gary Oakes will recall the careers of Broadway men Robert Preston, John Raitt and others at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. Tickets are $10. 658-6741.
Free concert
Tenor saxophonist Rick Margitza performs at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Government Center Ampitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. The concert is free, and no pets are allowed. 455-8200.
Amateur night
The Beach is now hosting a "Local Band Night" at 9 p.m. every Thursday at 365 Convention Center Drive. The event is free for both participating bands and patrons. 731-1925.
Summer band
The Las Vegas Summer Band will perform marches, musical medleys and traditional standards at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza in Lorenzei Park. Admission is free. 229-6328.
Jazz
John Abraham, Devin Streator, Jim McIntosh, Rochon Westmoreland and Dave Stambaugh will perform their fusion-style jazz from noon to 1 p.m. today at the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse, 333 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Admission is free. 229-6328.
Dance
Dance performance
Preston's Class Act dance and gymnastics school will hold its 2003 concert, "Just for Kids," at noon and 4 p.m. Saturday at Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall on the UNLV campus. Admission is free. 451-3939.
Theater
'The Taffetas'
The Las Vegas Little Theatre presents "The Taffetas" at 8 p.m. today and Thursday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday at 3844 Schiff Drive. A special gala presentation will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $18 for adults and $17 for seniors and students for regular shows and $25 for the gala show. 362-7996.
Outdoor theater
The State Parks Cultural Arts Board presents "Hello, Dolly!" the first play in its "Super Summer Theatre 2003" series, at 8 p.m. today, Saturday, Wednesday and Thursday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, 18 miles west on Charleston Boulevard in Red Rock Canyon.
