Metro planning DUI checkpoint
Metro Police will have a DUI checkpoint and a traffic enforcement checkpoint this weekend, funded by a grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.
The DUI checkpoint will run today from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in southeast Las Vegas.
A traffic enforcement checkpoint will be from 4 p.m. Saturday to midnight between Tropicana Avenue and Desert Inn Road, Durango Drive to Jones Boulevard.
Annual Pinjuv golf tournament set
The Las Vegas Paradise Sertoma Club will hold its seventh annual Walter Pinjuv Golf Tournament beginning with registration at 6:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 7 a.m. July 25 at the Revere Golf Club.
The cost for the one-day event will be $135 and includes green fees, cart, beverages, lunch and awards reception. There will also be door prizes and contests as well.

Seniors invited to two-day conference
The Nevada attorney general in partnership with Southern Nevada Area Health Education Center will present a two-day conference at 8 a.m. Thursday and June 27 at the Rio.
Seniors from throughout Nevada are encouraged to attend and learn about Medicare and Medicaid coverage and fraud, healthy lifestyles, personal and home safety and other timely topics.
Also, the conference will provide an educational forum to update seniors on current trends and issues of concern.
Exhibitors and vendors will display educational materials and information throughout the conference.

Matthew K. Williams, 18, of Las Vegas,
an undergraduate student at the Julliard School in New York, will be one of the 110-member Julliard Orchestra performing in Italy this summer. Williams will play the viola in the Spoleto Festival running June 27 through July 20. Williams graduated from the North Carolina School for Arts in 2002.
