Hearing set on transit tax

The Clark County Commission on Tuesday set a July 1 public hearing for implementing a new one-quarter of 1 percent sales tax to fund transportation and mass transit. The hearing will be at the regular commission meeting.
The Legislature and Gov. Kenny Guinn this month passed the authorization for the $2.7 billion funding measure for local transportation programs, a package of taxes and fees that also includes impact fees for new development.
Voters last November also approved the tax package.
The measure would pay for a variety of transportation projects statewide over the next 25 years.
