Letter: Plates should not promote rodeo
Tuesday, June 17, 2003 | 8:54 a.m.
Motor vehicle license plates have begun appearing on vehicles throughout the state proclaiming Nevada to be "The Rodeo State."
I thought we were the Silver State.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this plate goes to two special interest groups: The Reno Rodeo Foundation and The Nevada High School Rodeo Association.
Why is our state advertising to the country that we are proclaiming ourselves to be the national leader in the abuse of animals for human amusement that is the rodeo? This plate is as thoughtless as it is crass. Production should be stopped and the plates recalled.
From now on the Legislature needs to think twice when they OK a license plate design benefiting a special interest group that is lobbying for its own interests in Carson City.
