Anthem home destroyed by fire

Two homes were damaged by fires Sunday, one leading to an estimated $900,000 loss.

About 10:50 a.m. Henderson Fire Department crews responded to a house fire at 5 Old Marsh Road at the Anthem Country Club. Additional crews from Clark County then responded to the fire at the single-story home.

No one was injured, but the house was destroyed and two pets were missing after the fire. The blaze is under investigation, but officials said it appeared accidental.

Forty-five firefighters responded with eight engines, two paramedic rescue units, two truck companies, three chief officers and an investigator.

About 1:30 p.m. Las Vegas firefighters arrived at a home in the 5000 block of Kansas Avenue near U.S. 95 and Decatur Boulevard. Flames and smoke were visible from the rear of a one-story stucco and concrete block house in a utility room and dining room, Las Vegas fire spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

No one was injured.

Fire investigators believe the blaze started in a utility room, which contained a washer, dryer and water heater.

The fire was ruled accidental, cause undetermined. The house suffered an estimated $10,000 in damage.

The American Red Cross is assisting two adults and five children, ages 4 months to 15 years, who lived there.
