Pyne retiring from state PERS
Thursday, June 12, 2003 | 9:07 a.m.
George Pyne, executive officer of the 110,000-member state Public Employees Retirement System since 1995, is retiring.
Pyne, 50, has worked for the system since 1977 and said Wednesday that he will likely enter the private sector in some capacity. His retirement is effective July 15. The retirement system board will choose a successor to the $116,000-a-year job.
The system has about $14 billion in assets. About 85,000 of those enrolled are working and about 25,000 are retirees. State and local governments and the school districts all participate in the system.
During Pyne's tenure, pensioners saw greater post-retirement benefit increases, Gov. Kenny Guinn said.
