Letter: Cynics flourish in Carson City
Thursday, June 12, 2003 | 8:55 a.m.
The state of Nevada frequently brings up the rear nationally when it comes to measuring the quality of life of people here who do not have the good fortune to be a casino executive. Politics is pretty simple-minded in Carson City -- it goes something like this: "Taxes bad, no government is good. Good luck to us all, everybody can go home now and let's hope that nothing bad happens."
Is our state government just for lobbyists, or can anyone join? Why do people spend so much time running for state office and then take pride when nothing gets done?
Good luck to the people who need these services because a lot of people want you to fend for yourselves. Let's keep cramming our kids into schools that are already full. With this kind of political and legislative cynicism, no wonder the rest of the country wants to send its nuclear waste here. They figure nobody will notice or care.
