Work begins today on the Callville Bay access road in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
The four-mile rehabilitation project will improve the access road that connects Northshore Road with the marina, temporary residences, parking areas, boat ramp and National Park Service employee and concession housing area.
The access road will remain open during construction, park superintendent William K. Dickinson said.
Construction will take place from 5 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, avoiding busy weekends, Dickinson said.
No work on the parking lot is expected until after Labor Day in September.
Motorists should expect about 15-minute delays, Dickinson said.
Interstate Rock Products, Inc., of Hurricane, Utah, received the $5.3 million Federal Highway Administration contract. The project should be completed by June 1, 2004.
