Teens stack tires over flagpole

Seven Coronado High School seniors have some explaining to do for a prank they pulled Tuesday, stacking dozens of tires over the campus flagpole, school officials said.

"We get a lot of pranks this time of year ... where kids find this as a way of expressing themselves," Officer Darnell Couthen, spokesman for the district police, said.

Libby Hughes, a dispatcher for the district police, said that officers on campuses around the Las Vegas Valley are more alert for such pranks -- especially today, the last day of school.

The police investigated the incident and found no criminal intent, Couthen said.

The tires were placed on the flagpole during the night, he said.

The students, who were not identified by the school, will have to meet with the their parents and Principal Monte Bay today, said Edward Goldman, superintendent of the district's southeast region. The principal will decide the punishment, which will likely include paying to repair the minor damage to the flagpole, Goldman said.
