LV to host schedule of summer camps

Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services will hold summer camps from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Aug. 1.

There are five different summer camps available. Each camp offers something unique and is priced accordingly, from $35 to $100.

Activities include swimming, field trips, arts and crafts, sports and games.

UMC will offer baby-sitting course

University Medical Center will offer free Safe Sitter classes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday for children 11 to 13 at the Family Resource Center at University of Medical Center, 1120 Shadow Lane.

The two-day program covers basic child care, how to call for emergency help, first aid, safety, and baby-sitting business skills. A certificate is given to participants upon successful completion of the Safe Sitter program.

The Safe Sitter certificate lets parents know the baby sitter has the knowledge and skills to watch their children.

Concert to benefit Lili Claire Foundation

The Lili Claire Foundation will present its Celebrity Benefit at 5 p.m. Saturday at Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas.

The event will feature celebrity presentations as well as special musical performances by female rock band, Heart, Jo Dee Messina and singer/songwriter Vonda Shepard.

Family Ties workshop planned at Sunrise

Family Ties of Nevada, in cooperation with Sunrise Children's Hospital, will present a daylong workshop, Building Connections Between Families, Schools and Communities, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday for English speakers and June 14 for Spanish speakers at the hospital, 3186 S. Maryland Parkway.

Family Ties offers leadership training to parents of children who have disabilities. The workshop is designed to help parents become better partners with their school districts and communities.

Cost is $160, and full scholarships are available upon request.

National Trails Day

will begin with registration at 7 a.m. Saturday at Railroad Pass hotel. The event includes hikes, horse rides, a run, a bicycle trip, an interpretive presentation on the nearby historic site Texas Acres, and a mockup of the River Mountains Loop Trail Kiosk. For more information, call 645-1791.

In honor of the holy day of Shavuot,

Temple Beth Sholom, 10700 Havenwood Lane, presents A Buffet of Torah, a festival of food, fun and learning beginning 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Shavuot marks the beginning of a two-year project through which a Torah scribe will be creating a new Sefer Torah for Temple Beth Sholom. For more information, call 498-9808.
