Fugitive arrested at LV school
A man wanted in Allegheny County, Pa., on incest with a minor and child molestation charges was arrested on Friday at a Las Vegas school.
Metro Police Fugitive Detail officers were informed by Allegheny County law enforcement officials that Douglas Paul Trautman was in Southern Nevada.
Trautman was hired in August 2000 by the Clark County School District as a special education teacher's aide at Helen J. Stewart School on East Viking Road.
With the help of the school district and school police, Trautman was arrested without incident at the school Friday morning. He was taken to Clark County Detention Center and is awaiting extradition.
Curfews on teens to be enforced
Metro Police are enforcing teen curfews on the Strip again this summer through Operation Safe Strip.
Officers from the traffic and gang units, bike patrol and mounted patrol cite teens who hang out after hours, drink or get rowdy on the Strip.
Officers hold teens on a Clark County Detention Center bus on the Strip until their parents are contacted and can pick them up.
On Memorial Day weekend, officers said, some teens had to wait up to eight hours for their parents.
During the Memorial Day weekend, a total of 115 traffic citations were issued, 75 juvenile misdemeanor citations were issued, seven adult misdemeanor citations were issued, five teens were arrested and 16 parents picked up underage kids.
Homicide Bureau to expand
For the first time in 10 years the Metro Police Homicide Bureau is expanding, Sheriff Bill Young said.
A sergeant and six detectives, which makes up a entire squad, will join the bureau on July 12.
The additions will allow homicide investigators to spend more time on cases. The current homicide bureau has 18 detectives, three sergeants and one lieutenant.
Teams of two or three detectives and a sergeant are called out on a rotating basis for every homicide investigation. The current rate of homicides requires investigating teams called out on average every nine days. In April there were 21 homicides in Las Vegas
