3 die in separate weekend accidents in northern Nevada

Three people died in separate traffic accidents in northern Nevada over the weekend, authorities said.

A 26-year-old Reno woman was killed Sunday when her all-terrain vehicle slid 25 feet down an embankment on the Jumbo Grade above Washoe Valley south of Reno.

The victim, whose name wasn't released, was riding with a group of friends when the accident occurred, Washoe County sheriff's deputies said. She was wearing a helmet.

On Saturday, a California man was killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 395 about five miles south of Gardnerville.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said a northbound vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and struck the victim's car. He was flown to a Carson City hospital and later pronounced dead. His name wasn't released.

Troopers are investigating why the other vehicle crossed into his lane.

Three other people were taken to a Reno hospital with serious injuries.

On Friday, Jennifer Giles, 20, of South Jordan, Utah, was killed in a single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 80 about 11 miles east of Fernley.

Troopers said the victim was a passenger in a westbound sport utility vehicle that drifted off the roadway and rolled several times.

Giles and the driver, a 17-year-old West Valley, Utah boy whose name wasn't released, were not wearing seat belts.
