Dennehy death ruled homicide
Baylor basketball player Patrick Dennehy died of gunshot wounds to the head, according to a preliminary autopsy report released today.
Dennehy's official cause of death is homicide, the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas said in its report.
The one-page report was released today to Belinda Summers, a justice of the peace in McLennan County, where the body was found Friday.
The remains were in a grassy field about 4 miles from campus.
Carlton Dotson, Dennehy's roommate and former teammate, was arrested July 21 and charged with murder.
U.S. draws Brazil
The U.S. team will open the Olympic qualifying basketball tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico, against Brazil and could face Argentina in the second round. The U.S. was grouped with Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and the Virgin Islands at the draw for the men's qualifying tournament, which begins Aug. 20.
Gilberston in
Keith Gilbertson took over as Washington's head football coach, the day after Rick Neuheisel's firing became official. Formerly the Huskies' former offensive coordinator, Gilbertson will earn $870,000 a year.
Sanderson a go
Four-time national champion Cael Sanderson announced he will compete with the U.S. freestyle wrestling team at the Pan American Games at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Agassi advances
Top-seeded Andre Agassi advanced to the third round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic with a 6-3, 6-1 win at Washington.
Tarnstrom re-signs
Defenseman Dick Tarnstrom avoided agreed today to a $2.5 million, two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
A hit for OLN
Outdoor Life Network announced its broadcasts of the Tour de France attracted twice the viewers as last year's race. OLN averaged 301,000 households each day and had 800,000 homes for Saturday's time trial. OLN averages monthly ratings of fewer than 80,000.
