NLV to host National Night Out

North Las Vegas will hold its eighth annual National Night Out event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hartke Park (corner of Tonopah and McDaniel, behind J.D. Smith Middle School) in North Las Vegas.

"National Night Out" is designed to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; discourage gang affiliation; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnership; educate the community regarding community agencies and the services they provide to all citizens; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

The event is free and encourages citizens to join forces in the fight against crime.

Red Cross plans Pet First Aid class

The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada's next Pet First Aid class is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the ARC office at 3672 N. Rancho Drive.

The fee for the 4-hour course is $35 which includes a Pet First Aid reference book and a Red Cross course completion certificate.

Fashion show set for Beach Club

The second annual A Touch of Fashion entertainment and fashion show will begin at 6 p.m. Monday at the Beach Club, 365 Convention Center Drive.

Special guest is Mayor Oscar Goodman.

Water authority to give conservation tips

The Southern Nevada Water Authority is holding the Beat the Drought, Get Water Smart event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Boulevard Mall, 3528 S. Maryland Parkway.

Homeowners can learn tips and practical techniques to help you conserve water during the drought. Both English and Spanish-speaking water experts will show you how.

The event will feature short presentations on the drought and include current photos of what Lake Mead looks like today in comparison to just a few years ago.

Also, the Boulevards Mall will celebrate its 15th annual Cabby Appreciation event with a party beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Vintage fashion auction to be held on Friday

"The Maui-Wowie Fashion Show and Auction" will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the Arts Factory, 101 E. Charleston Blvd.

The show and live auction will feature Vintage Summer and Island Fashions for men and women, from the 1940s and 1970s.

Class to teach baby sitting skills

Young adults ages 11 to 15 can learn the skills needed to be a competent baby-sitter through the Safe Sitter class being offered from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Participants will learn safety and security precautions, how to react if a stranger comes to the door, when and how to call for help, and age-appropriate activities for the children.
