The Venetian resort has filed an application to leave the Nevada Power Co. system and buy its own electricity.
In an application filed last week with the state Public Utilities Commission, the Strip hotel-casino asked for permission to buy power from Sempra Energy Solutions. The resort's peak load is estimated at about 32 megawatts, and it has requested permission to leave Jan. 1 for a minimum of three years.
Earlier this month, four large power users -- including MGM MIRAGE and Fashion Show Mall -- signed contracts with new suppliers and completed the application process to leave Nevada Power.
Four other users -- including Park Place Entertainment Corp. -- also filed new applications to buy their own power.
