Jazz
Local jazz guitarist/vocalist Calvin Brooks will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Thursday at Starbucks, 651 N. Rainbow Road. The performances are free. 340-9391 or 499-4110.
Children's concerts
Las Vegas' Cultural Affairs Division presents Jugglemania with Shoehorn at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. today at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The show features juggler Rhys Thomas and tap-dancing saxophonist Shoehorn (Michael Conley), and is part of the city's 19th annual Children's Summer Concert Series. Concert series
Central Christian Church offers a free weekly series entitled, "Hot Summer Nights," at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday throughout the summer at 1001 New Beginnings Drive. 735-4004.
Christian rock
Ascension, a contemporary Christian rock band, will perform at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Pkwy. The performances are free. 454-8484.
Amateur night
The Beach is now hosting a "Local Band Night" at 9 p.m. every Thursday at 365 Convention Center Drive. The event is free for both participating bands and patrons. 731-1925.
Theater
Free magic show
Comic magician Mac King will host a free magic show for teens at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the James I. Gibson Library, 280 S. Water St. King's show is part of the Henderson District Public Libraries' summer program, "Laugh Out Loud," which aims to keep students involved in reading during the summer break. 562-9287.
Free performance
Endless Productions presents a free production of "When Shakespeare's Ladies Meet" at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Clark County Library Jewel Box, 1401 E. Flamingo Ave. 656-4498.
Outdoor theater
The State Parks Cultural Arts Board presents "Oklahoma!," the second play in its "Super Summer Theatre 2003" series, at 8 p.m. today and Saturday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, 18 miles west on Charleston Boulevard in Red Rock Canyon. Tickets are $7. 594-7529 or 895-2787.
