Letter: Supreme Court’s decision shows votes don’t count

Do we still live in a democratic society where our vote counts? I am beginning to wonder after the Nevada Supreme Court decision that set aside the constitutional requirement for a two-thirds majority vote in the Legislature to raise taxes.
The Supreme Court committed a terrible injustice against Nevadans by disregarding that "we the people" twice voted for a two-thirds majority rule. Were we irresponsible when we voted for this? I don't think so.
This decision sends out a message letting Nevadans know that our votes don't count. The two-thirds requirement was implemented so that taxation would be fair and bipartisan. The Nevada Supreme Court could have forced the legislators to go back to work and reach a compromise. Instead it made a terrible, drastic decision. What a sad day.
