Four scholarships in the arts awarded
The Nevada Arts Advocates awarded $500 scholarships to four Nevada graduating high school seniors for excellence in theater, dance, art and music. Their scholarships will go to each recipient's respective college.
The recipients are: Michelle Gott of Henderson in music, Amber Brown of Elko in theater, Tyson N. Manning of Owyhee in dance and Shelly E. Zaskoda of Stateline in art.
The Nevada Arts Advocates established the scholarship fun in 2000 for graduating high school seniors who want to continue their education in the arts.
Bechtel Nevada has given Charles Madsen
the first Bechtel Nevada Science and Engineering Award for his classified work on security system technologies.
Blood Drives
These locations will host blood drives next week for United Blood services, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd.
Monday: 8 a.m. to noon, Silver Ridge Healthcare Center, 1151 S. Torrey Pines Drive; 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Lummis Elementary School, 9000 Hillpointe Road.
Tuesday: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Community College of Southern Nevada, 4601 W. Bonanza Road.
Wednesday: 7 a.m. to noon, Desert Springs Hospital, 2075 E. Flamingo Road; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., University of Nevada, Las Vegas; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Citibank, 8725 W. Sahara Ave.
Aug. 1: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., McCarran Airport; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Costco, 222 S. Martin Luther King Blvd.
Aug. 2: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Spring Meadows Presbyterian, 1600 E. Oakey Blvd.; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Eagle Scout Project Eric Rigg, 9011 Hillpointe Road; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Home Depot, 6025 S. Pecos Road.
