Public can be paged or e-mailed with county alerts

Wednesday, July 23, 2003 | 9:33 a.m.

Clark County has unveiled a new service that allows residents to receive via pager or e-mail flash flood warnings and other emergency news.

The free service, called Direct Connect, offers residents the ability to sign up for not only emergency news, but also information about other county matters and events.

The information can be sent directly to an e-mail inbox or, in cases of certain emergency notifications, to a pager.

Direct Connect is available through the county website (www.accessclarkcounty.com). Residents interested in participating may simply fill out a few questions and submit an e-mail address.

The types of news and updates residents can receive include: emergency notifications for events such as flash flood alerts, Amber Alerts, neighborhood evacuations and incidents of terrorism; air quality alerts; transportation updates for road closures or traffic alerts; information about recreational and cultural events; newsletters and breaking news items; public meeting agendas and minutes; and job announcements.

Users can customize the new subscription service based on their personal needs.

Direct Connect is designed to provide citizens with the information they want.

The county also has added a feature to the system that allows staff to monitor users' feedback in order to determine if other services should be added.
