Letter: Parties, lobbyists are too dominant

Wednesday, July 23, 2003 | 8:47 a.m.

We elect people to represent us in government only to find they vote the party line in state and national elections -- because that is where the re-election money is. Locally, one only needs to follow the voting record to know where the money is.

Observing the fiasco in Carson City, and the divisions in Washington, one can only hope that the present stranglehold of the two-party system (and/or control by lobbyists) can somehow be broken.

Perhaps the example initiated by Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean of using the Internet for fund-raising can be expanded by someone so as to restore the concept of voting for one's beliefs.
