Teacher arraigned on charges of sex assaults on children

The local substitute teacher charged with sexually assaulting a student and a relative was arraigned Monday in Las Vegas Justice Court.

Robert Stevenson, 33, was arraigned on seven counts of lewdness with a minor under 14 and two counts of attempted sexual assault with a victim under 14.

Stevenson, who worked at John Bass Elementary School, was being held at the Clark County Detention Center with bail set at $125,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 14.

Authorities say an 8-year-old boy told them that several children, some of whom were students from the school, stayed overnight at Stevenson's home and were forced to commit numerous sexual acts.

Stevenson initially faced only charges relating to that child.

Last week he posted a $50,000 bail and was scheduled to be released from the Clark County Detention Center when prosecutors added charges relating to the second alleged victim, a family member, Chief Deputy District Attorney Doug Herndon said.

Stevenson has been dismissed from the Clark County School District, officials said.
