110-plus temperatures return today
Monday, July 21, 2003 | 8:45 a.m.
Hotter temperatures are expected this week in Southern Nevada after some thunderstorms cooled the area a little over the weekend, National Weather Service forecasters said.
After rain fell Friday night and early Saturday morning, the high on Saturday was 102, according to the National Weather Service. Only a trace fell at the official reporting station, McCarran International Airport, but other parts of the Las Vegas Valley got 0.4 inches, meteorologist Larry Jensen said.
By Sunday the high was back up to 108, short of the record 113 in 1959. The average daytime temperature for July is 105 degrees.
The highs are expected to creep above 110 again this week, where they hovered last week.
Jensen predicted the high temperature today and Tuesday would reach 111 degrees.
