Air Guard has new commander
The 1,100 airmen in the Nevada Air National Guard have a new commander.
Brig. Gen. Charles Chinnock assumed command Saturday, succeeding Brig Gen. Stephen Vonderheide, who is retiring.
Chinnock, who is director of the state Taxation Department, will also become assistant adjutant general in the air command. The military job is a part-time post. He will continue to head the Taxation Department.
Chinnock has been in the Air Guard since 1967 and is a command pilot with more than 5,500 flight hours in various aircraft.
Greg Smith, a former city supervisor in Carson City,
has been named administrator of the state Purchasing Division, succeeding Bill Moell, who retired July 2.
