County to consider water conservation
Monday, July 14, 2003 | 8:27 a.m.
The Clark County Commissioners will consider a slew of new drought-related conservation measures, including rate increases, after public hearings Tuesday.
On the table Tuesday are conservation-related rate increases for homeowners and businesses and penalties for excessive irrigation by golf courses.
The rate increases for homeowners are divided into tiers, with rates going up by 4 percent to 40 percent for the heaviest users.
Golf courses could pay thousands yearly if they do not cut their use to about 6 feet of water per irrigated water, per year.
The Clark County Commission will consider restrictions on the outdoor use of water for landscaping, including rules governing what kinds of landscaping to use and amount of turf, at a 10 a.m. hearing.
The commission, this time meeting as the board of the Las Vegas Valley Water District, will hold a second public hearing and vote on the water rates and use restrictions at 1:30 p.m.
Both meetings will be in the commission chambers of the Clark County Government Center, 500 Grand Central Parkway.
