Mistaken identity claim is denied

Monroe's route

Metro Police have determined that murder suspect Perry Monroe visited the follwing cities on the dates shown, leading up to the murder of Ladonna Milam, a maid at the Hacienda hotel. Detectives have contacted police in these cities to see if they have any similar unsolved homicides.

However, it could be more than a month before Perry Monroe, 29, makes an appearance in a Clark County court to face charges that he killed Ladonna Milam in June.

Monroe was arrested in California after the slaying and is fighting extradition. Clark County officials have applied for a governors' warrant, a document signed by Gov. Kenny Guinn and California Gov. Gray Davis, which would move him a step closer to being returned to Nevada to face prosecution.

A hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 5 to check the status of the warrant.

Because of the brutality of Milam's death, Lt. Tom Monahan said detectives suspect there may be others and are trying to determine if Monroe is connected to other deaths.

They determined he traveled through 17 states, mainly in the Midwest and South, in the two weeks before Milam was killed. Detectives called police in the 39 cities and towns he passed through to see if they are investigating any murders that could be connected to Monroe, but turned up empty-handed.

They came up with "nothing, not even anything remotely close," Monahan said.
