Visitor center to shift to Primm

Wednesday, July 9, 2003 | 11:17 a.m.

A Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority visitor center will be moved from Jean to Primm beginning next month.

The LVCVA board of directors on Tuesday approved a lease agreement with Talisman LV Fashion LLC, operator of the Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas mall in Primm, a town at the California/Nevada border on Interstate 15 some 35 miles south of Las Vegas.

Under terms of the agreement, Talisman will build the visitor center and there will be no lease expense to the LVCVA.

Diana McAdam, manager of marketing services for the LVCVA, said Talisman is remodeling a building that formerly housed a Denny's restaurant to the new Las Vegas Collectible Cafe, which will include space for the visitor center.

McAdam said traffic counts have declined in recent years at the exit to Jean, 12 miles north of Primm, while more people have visited Primm, the first exit in Nevada from the south after crossing the border from California. McAdam said the location would offer the three things most tourists seek -- information, food and restrooms.
