Monday night, Texas Christian officials told UNLV baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle that they would hire their new baseball coach by Wednesday.
"I talked to them for a brief second (Monday), and all I know is I'm still a candidate," Schlossnagle said. "The pace should pick up in the next 24 to 48 hours."
Longtime TCU assistant Donnie Watson, Southwest Texas coach Ty Harrington, Miami of Ohio coach Tracy Smith and Schlossnagle are reportedly the finalists for the Horned Frogs' position.
Lance Brown retired June 16 after forging a 517-471 record in 17 seasons at TCU, located in Fort Worth, Texas. Schlossnagle, 32, interviewed for the position two weeks ago today.
The Rebels were 47-17 this past season, Schlossnagle's second and the second-best record in the program's history. They played in the NCAA tournament for only the second time in 14 years.
Schlossnagle's wife, Kami, considers the Dallas-Fort Worth area home, and Schlossnagle would value his two young children growing up around an extended family.
