Links from treasurer’s website aim to educate

State Treasurer Brian Krolicki has added a new feature to his website, designed to help Nevadans become financially literate.
In conjunction with The Bond Market Foundation, Krolicki has launched the Gateway Initiative that will link Krolicki's site with those of the foundation. From Krolicki's site at NevadaTreasurer.com users will be able to gain access to the Bond Market Foundation's educational sites.
"I believe this will be a critical and highly used tool to educate people on financial matters," Krolicki said.
The Bond Market Foundation family of websites are designed to give basic financial information to the novice, said Micah Green president of the Bond Market Association and board member of the Bond Market Foundation.
The foundation sites include tomorrowsmoney.org, ahorrando.org and unwantedchange.org.
The sites are for people to gain knowledge so they can ask the right questions when investing, he said.
Green said the initiative will combine the resources of the foundation with the easy access of Krolicki's site.
The Bond Market Foundation sites are geared toward young people, women and Spanish-speaking residents, Green said. He added that the foundation hopes to empower people to take care of their own financial futures.
Nevada is the first state to work with the Bond Market Foundation, but Krolicki said others may follow. He said the next states would be those whose treasurers sit on the National Association of State Treasurers Foundation.
